Acids is a substance which produces hydronium ions, H3O+, when added to water.(+ charge = Cation.) Acids have many useslike phosphoric acid which can be used to make gasoline additives and carbonate beverages. HCI(strong acid.) on salad, HC2H3O2(Vinegar) on your salad (weak acid). The characteristics of acids is that it tastes sour, corrosive to metals, Litmus turns red.
The base is caffeine, bitter taste. Ammonia is a weak base, which produces fewer hydroxide ions in water solution than there are particles of base dissolved. A substance which produces hydroxide ons OH, when added to water. - charge= Anion. The characteristics is a bitter taste, slippery and the limus turns blue.
Finally PH is used to describe the relative acidity of solutions. PH represents the acidic and basic strengths of solution.
